“It is important to implement UN Resolution 2254, after reforming the High Negotiations Committee and the Constitutional Committee, to represent all communities of Syria,”
European Parliament member, Javier Nart, said on Tuesday that the EU governments must assume their responsibilities towards their citizens detained in camps in northeast Syria, in reference to the families of ISIS.
Nart’s statements came during a meeting in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, with Abdulkarim Omar, co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Nart, the Spanish politician, expressed his sadness over his country’s failure not to repatriate its nationals who are in camps in northeast Syria.
Meanwhile, Omar said that any potential Turkish aggression is an opportunity for the return of ISIS to destabilize the region.
The areas controlled by Turkey and its affiliated opposition factions (SNA) witness daily violations, Omar added.
Discussing the ways to end the Syrian, war, Omar said: “The principle of a democratic political solution and constructive dialogue is the basis of the AANES project to build a decentralized, democratic Syria.”
“It is important to implement UN Resolution 2254, after reforming the High Negotiations Committee and the Constitutional Committee, to represent all communities of Syria,” he added.
“The biggest challenges facing the ANNES are economic and humanitarian ones, especially after the closure of Tel Kojer (al Yaroubiya) border crossing and receiving the humanitarian aid only through Damascus and in small quantities,” He said.
Tel Kojer crossing, which is located on the Syrian-Iraqi border, was closed after the veto of Moscow and Beijing in the UN Security Council in early 2020.
The closure of al-Yarubiyah Crossing (Tel Kojer) continues and this prevents the entry of humanitarian aid, which puts humanitarian pressure on the displaced in the AANES areas.
In the coming days, Javier Nart will travel in northeast Syria to meet with officials of the Autonomous Administration, in order to get a better understanding of the situation in the region.
